Florence
is alive

treat it with care

Thousands of visitors come to Florence every day to admire the cultural heritage. Florence has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982 due to its outstanding universal value.

The city is much more than an outdoor museum, however. It’s a delicate ecosystem that revolves around the people who live and work here. Keeping this system alive and well is a major concern, requiring tourism to be properly managed, and its impact on the city’s society, culture and environment monitored and mitigated.

#EnjoyRespectFirenze is an awareness-raising campaign, part of a project by the Italian Ministry of Tourism called “Major Italian Destinations for Sustainable Tourism”, which has been carried out in the City of Florence in collaboration with Fondazione Destination Florence. The objective is to inform visitors about clever choices and actions that lead to a better informed, more respectful and sustainable experience, as well as encouraging the discovery of lesser-known, yet equally fascinating places to visit.

We hope that by helping visitors become more aware of their impact on the city and by providing information and tips to reduce this impact, we can increase their level of satisfaction while preserving Florence’s authenticity. The two go hand in hand.

If you’re visiting Florence, we hope you’ll take these tips to heart. You’ll help preserve the city, its environment and culture for generations to come – and you’ll have a better time, too.
As a World Heritage Site, Florence belongs to all of us.

Florence is a delicate creature that deserves to be treated with care.
